Industry = Healthcare

Press Release Summary = David McCarthy has puiblished another common sense article
on dieting that questions whether it is necessary for weight watchers to follow
rigid dieting guidelines.

He claims that it is unrealistic to believe that you can lose weight at a greater
rate than one-pound (450 grams) per week and keep it off.

Press Release Body = Sydney, Australia. January 24, 2006

There are several reasons why \"super\" diets fail to work, according to David
McCarthy, not least of which is that they tend to be too rigid and take the attitude
that weight loss is achieved if weight watchers follow their word to the letter or
something terrible will happen.

Because the weight loss industry is so competitive each new diet is forced to claim,
that they can lose weight faster than the previous diet. It appears to be out of
fashion to claim that a diet is about health rather than pounds and the best diets
take a holistic view of the dieters needs in preference to focusing just on weight.

For many years now the industry has known that to lose weight at a greater rate than
one-pound (450 grams) per week is unrealistic. But who buys a book today that
claims \"One-Pound Per Week.\" - Nobody, and this is the main reason why they all
aim for massive weight-loss for the sake of selling books or programs.

In fairness to the modern diets most of them do help you to shed weight at anything
from 5 to 10 pounds each week. What they don\'t publicize is that after a few months
the weight returns and you are back to square one. Whereas if you aim to lose
weight by just one-pound each week you will find that each pound that you lose stays
lost.
